The Dutch government is allocating 160.5 million euros to fund large research projects in the coming years. This was announced by the caretaker Minister of Education, Culture, and Science, Dijkgraaf. The funding will support various scientific projects over a period of at least five years. The investment in science is not new; the government started this initiative ten years ago. Universities in the Netherlands can apply for this so-called Gravitation Program. Researchers who receive funding for their projects will get half of the money for the first five years. Projects that are successfully evaluated after five years will receive the second half of the amount.
