Research technician

To support the iCNS consortium, the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the UMCG is looking for a research technician. You will play an important role in generating high-quality molecular data from brain tissue of individuals with and without psychiatric disorders. Your workday is varied and challenging: you will perform advanced multi-omics experiments, carry out data analyses, and thereby contribute to mapping the molecular and cellular processes underlying psychiatric disorders.

You will work with innovative techniques such as (spatial) RNA sequencing. In this role, you will process postmortem brain tissue, conduct experiments at (sub)cellular resolution, and ensure the quality of the generated data. In addition, you will analyze and interpret results and document them carefully. You will also be involved in setting up and optimizing new techniques and protocols.

To support the iCNS consortium, The Netherlands Brain Bank (NBB), a department of the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience (NIN), is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated research technician who enjoys working with tissue and is curious about brain research. You will be responsible for cryosectioning tissues from several brain regions for downstream molecular and imaging analyses within the iCNS consortium. Your main tasks include; cryosectioning frozen human brain tissue, preparing tissue sections for downstream applications such as molecular analyses and imaging, organizing and storing samples in freezers, recording all tissue handling activities in the tracking database, helping to maintain quality control of tissue processing workflows, assisting with sample shipment processes and assisting with brain dissection and autopsy procedures.
