First iCNS PhD and Postdoc at UMCG

9 April 2025

Meeting in Nijmegen

On the first of January, iCNS welcomed a PhD student and Postdoc to the iCNS team at UMCG as part of Work Package 2, which aims to create a molecular human brain atlas with a focus on brain regions associated with psychiatric disorders.

Rugilė Matulevičiūtė is a postdoctoral researcher who completed her PhD at King’s College London. During her PhD, she used long-read RNA sequencing techniques to study how different RNA transcripts (isoforms) of the same gene are expressed in developing brain cells created from stem cells. Specifically, she investigated microglia, the immune cells of the brain, and neurons,  responsible for information processing.

She joined iCNS on 1st January 2025, and her work will aim to build a comprehensive map of RNA isoforms in the human brain, both in healthy conditions and in psychiatric diseases.

Chloé LeMaoult joined the iCNS team as a PhD student on January 1 as well. She holds a Research Master’s degree in Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (specialized track for Molecular and Clinical Neurosciences) from the University of Groningen. She will work under the supervision of Bart Eggen, focusing on developing a molecular human brain atlas of psychiatric disorders using omics-technologies.

The initial work of Chloé and Rugilė was recently discussed during an iCNS meeting in Nijmegen. Their expertise and enthusiasm will undoubtedly make a great contribution to the molecular brain atlas to be developed in iCNS. We wish them both lots of success!
