Prof. dr. Charlotte Teunissen
I aim to improve care for patients with neurological diseases through the use of body fluid biomarkers for diagnosis, patient stratification, prognosis, and monitoring treatment responses. My research group covers the full spectrum of biomarker development: from biomarker discovery using omics approaches, through assay development and analytical and clinical validation, to implementation in clinical practice and clinical trials.
My young and dynamic laboratory has extensive expertise in state-of-the-art technologies, including Olink and NULISA proteomics platforms, various ultrasensitive and antibody-based assays, and in vitro diagnostics for routine clinical laboratory analysis. All of these technologies are available in-house.
I am responsible for the large biobank of the Amsterdam Dementia Cohort, which contains more than 10,000 paired CSF and plasma/serum samples from individuals attending the memory clinic of the Alzheimer Center Amsterdam. I also lead several international collaborative biomarker networks, including the Society for Neurochemistry and Routine CSF Analysis and the Alzheimer’s Association Global Biomarker Standardization Consortium. In addition, I advise several public and private initiatives that aim to implement fluid biomarkers in clinical practice and treatment development, including the WHO.
